What is the Colorado Digital Storytelling Project?

The Cherry Creek School District is starting a Colorado Digital Storytelling Project for the 2015-2016 school year, and they are reaching out to districts (or even individual schools or classrooms) statewide to invite them to participate. eNetLearning has provided this group and online space so the project will have a place to share resources and strategies as it moves forward.

The project's initial focus in Cherry Creek will be with 4th grade students (as part of Colorado history curriculum) but any grade level or content area is welcome to participate.  The goals of the project are to:

  • build skills around literacy (reading, writing, speaking & listening) using digital tools
  • develop and apply skills in the realm of digital video editing
  • promote collaboration between students across classrooms, schools, districts, and/or state
  • support the Colorado Academic Standards with curriculum-based projects aligned to CAS

‚ÄčTeachers have complete freedom to decide where these skills best fit into their curriculum and can use digital storytelling for whatever unit or lesson they want.  Student exemplars can be submitted as part of the culminating Colorado Digital Storytelling Project Film Festival.

Due to the focus on student collaboration and to alleviate COPPA concerns, the project will utilize the Premium version of WeVideo (currently $1.75 per user annually).  WeVideo has agreed to offer statewide consortium pricing so that any classroom, school, or district can join, even if they are outside of Cherry Creek Schools.

See attached proposal below from WeVideo about their involvement in and their support of the project.
